West-East Day 1 Los Angeles-Joshua Tree

Decided to make the first day easy, since it took me forever to pack the car. Of course several things did not make it on the trip. Jamie's gift of a camping chair and my purple hoodie. Took the upmost of my willpower not to stop by Coco's and visit the yummy bicycle repair guy. if i did, who knows, i may still be in Los Angeles. no traffic getting to JT. met blake at the motel, which is almost ready to go. bought a year pass to all the national parks and forests. had my standard tempeh ruben at the crossoads. passed out at blake's back house, which i last visited with curtis a year ago. can't believe i did not tear up or get sentimental, which is rather uncharacteristic for me. woke up as the sun was setting down and went to the motel and got to see what it looks like lit up. the bathrooms look like james turrell boxes. tried to photograph the sign but i don't think it came out very good. cooked dinner with blake, yes, beets. blake made great ahi steaks with garlic sauce. nice to cook dinner together. both of us were exhausted. no partying. nervous about taking off tomorrow.

chichi glamorosa

what a difference does a haircut make? carl cut and colored my hair and voila! i got a free bike tune-up from a cutest guy at the coco's bike shop on riverside. what really happened is that while i was getting my bike tune up, 5 thuggy looking guys walke in and started roaming around the shop. i told the bike shop guy that i will hang around until they are gone. afterwards he aske me if i would like a kiss for my 'help'? ann magnuson's song 'old enough to be your mom' popped into my head. made a goat cheese/beet salad for mamey an jo and they liked it!?!? flattered to no end, since they are such foodies.

ready to get on the road. have to reconfigure my bags (how did i end up with a trunk full of junk? one more day at work, dealing with an ogre. i will survive.
